【Professional Receptionist】Words of Etiquette

Joining Good-will Mission Corps at university, I had many training courses for etiquette/reception/communication. After passing the training, I served as a professional receptionist and participated in nearly 20 large exhibitions, ceremonies, and so on. When it comes to international occasions, reception language in English becomes even more significant. Even if you speak fluent English, incorrect or improper etiquette words may cause unnecessary misunderstanding or embarrassment. Therefore, the following are about 10 most commonly used English reception sentences; not only to enhance your professionalism, but also to demonstrate your international etiquette, (also honor your country 😆)!
1. Excuse me. My name is _______. I will serve as your guide and receptionist today. If you have any questions and need any assistance, please feel free to let me know. I will be very glad to help you out.
2. Could I have your invitation letter/ticket/seat number, please? Thank you. This way, please.
3. The site of celebration ceremony and festivities is at ________. I will be very glad to show you the way. Follow me, please. Thank you.
4. Mind your step.
5. The Republic of China is the formal name of our country, Taiwan, which was founded in 1912. Our National Day is on October 10th.
6. Excuse me. I am afraid that you are sitting on the wrong seat / at the wrong area. Your seat is at row ________(number). I will be very glad to guide you there. Follow me, please. Thank you.
7. Please remember to put your name tag, so that we can identify you and render our best service to you.

8. I am afraid that there might be a slight misunderstanding here. We will give you the correct information right away. Sorry for any inconvenience it might cause you.
9. Let me remind again that smoking, alcohol-drinking, and picture-taking are not allowed inside and outside of the Presidential Buildings. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
10. Perhaps I haven’t made myself clear. Basically, what I am trying to say is that ________.
11. All of the information and relevant data of the entire programs today will be in your bag. Please check it and tell me if there is anything else that you will need. I will go to get it for you right away.
12. Please take a rest here. I will take you to the Nursing Station / First-aid Station right away.
13. I am deeply honored to serve as your guide and receptionist, and welcome back to our country again in the near future.

To become an outstanding receptionist, having complete and full training & practice in makeup, walking, sitting, gestures, manners, temperament, spot reactions & QA, etc. is required. This way, you’re able to show the natural side of yourself in the ceremony.

Good manner brings you good fortune!
Confidence is the courage of showing yourself without losing courtesy. I believe you are all on a glorious road!
